Tadej Pogacar has hinted at the possibility of early retirement, potentially after the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

After securing his fourth Tour de France title in 2025, he expressed concerns about burnout in the demanding sport, citing the intense training and racing schedule.

“I don’t think I’ll stop right away, but I also don’t see myself continuing too long,” said the world champion.

“The Los Angeles Olympics are one of my goals, which are three years from now. After that, I might start thinking about retirement — we’ll see.”

Despite his dominance, including wins in the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and World Championships in 2024, Pogacar emphasized enjoying the moment and avoiding overtraining to prevent mental and physical fatigue. He remains contracted with UAE Team Emirates-XRG until 2030 but suggested he might not race that long, with no firm plans beyond defending his Tour title in 2026 and targeting the Olympics.

“Let’s take one week easy now, I want to enjoy some summer days, we were training some much for heat adaptation and heat acclimatisation and in the end the Tour was not so hot, so I want some hot days now but without suffering on the bike, so let’s take a week off and we’ll see from then on.”
