Primoz Roglic will not be at the start of this year’s Tour de France, he announced at a press conference in Ljubljana.
The Jumbo-Visma rider is aiming for a fourth overall victory at the Vuelta a Espana after a successful Giro.
Roglic was honored in his home country Slovenia today, three weeks after winning the Giro. On Sunday he was also the guest of honor at the Tour of Slovenia.
“The Tour de France is really not in my plans, just like the National Championships,” Roglic says.
“Most likely I will do the Vuelta a Espana, that will be my next race.”
Roglic will be hunting his fourth Vuelta victory, after previous triumphs in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Last year he fought a fierce duel with Remco Evenepoel, but a crash in the final week made him abandon.
It is still unclear exactly how Roglic will prepare for the Vuelta, but the Slovenian will not ride the World Championships.
“That does not fit in the plans towards the Vuelta. That’s how we agreed with the team. We cannot start competitions without proper preparation. Without a good preparation I can’t enjoy a race much”, said Roglic.
