Robin Williams’ fabulous bike collection goes to auction

Humor-loving cyclists, hold onto your caps: You could house a piece of comedy legend Robin William’s epic personal bike collection in your own gear shed.

Williams died in 2014, and his family has now put 87 bikes up for auction to raise funds for two of Williams’s favoured charities, the Challenged Athletes Foundation and Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

The bikes up for auction include some incredibly rare team issue, special edition and custom-made models – plus some eclectic inclusions, such as a unicycle and a Velotron indoor training bike.

“He had such a passion for the sport and the bicycle,” said Williams’s friend Jim Ochowicz to the Wall Street Journal, a former pro who manages the WorldTou BMC Racing Team. “He loved the colors, the design, the engineering. When I rode with him, he’d often be on another bike, and I’d be like, ‘Whoa, where is that one from?’”

Cycling was more than just exercise for Williams who fully embraced the sport. “I think it gave him a different outlet,” said Ochowicz. “No one likes to talk about work all the time. You’ve got to have a hobby. This was his.”

Here’s a look at the most interesting bicycles in William’s vast collection.
