Several teams have been rumoured to sign Primoz Roglic, after the Slovenian announced that he will leave Jumbo-Visma in 2024, but it seems that Bora-hansgrohe is the closest to sign the Giro winner.
According to the Slovenian, more details about his transfer will be released after Il Lombardia.
According to another team, Jumbo-Visma is asking for a payment of 3 million euros to terminate Roglic’s ongoing contract for the next two years. Furthermore, the rider himself would like a salary of 5.5 million euros. In 2024 and 2025, he wants to focus mainly on winning the Tour de France, the only Grand Tour he has not yet won.
In the past five seasons, in addition to Jumbo-Visma, UAE Team Emirates and Ineos Grenadiers, only Quick-Step with Remco Evenepoel at the Vuelta and Bora-hansgrohe with Jai Hindley at the Giro succeeded to claim a grand tour.
Last week, Roglic was reportedly spotted at the RedBull HQ in Fuschl am See, Austria. The energy drink company and the Germans share the building to conduct tests. The Slovenian is said to have taken his Cervélo bike with him to compare the dimensions with the Specialized used by Bora-hansgrohe. RedBull has been a partner of the German team for a number of years and is said to be one of the financiers of this top transfer.
Lidl-Trek, Movistar, Ineos Grenadiers, Jayco-AlUla, Bahrain Victorious and Israel-Premier Tech were also linked to Roglic.
