Olav Kooij won the opening stage of the Tour de Pologne on Saturday, a 218.8km run between Kielce and Lublin.
The Jumbo-Visma rider came out on top in a sprint finish ahead of Phil Bauhaus and Jordi Meeus.
Behind them, many riders in the peloton were caught up in a crash just one kilometre from the finish.
“There are a lot of good sprinters here at the start line and it’s also WorldTour level so I would say this is the biggest win this year,” Kooij said. “And we were aiming for a stage win this week, so it’s always nice when you get it.”
