Nairo Quintana will ride for Movistar in 2025 after the Spanish team decided to extend for one more season the contract of the Colombian rider.
Quintana returned to Movistar in 2024, after having been without a team since October 2022. He was disqualified from the Tour de France that year after testing positive for tramadol. This painkiller is not on the WADA banned substances list, but is banned by the UCI.
In his first months with the team, Quintana showed some flashes of his former class. The most impressive was the Giro stage to Livigno, where he seemed on his way to a stage win, but Tadej Pogacar overtook him in the final kilometers. Quintana rode his best result since his comeback with a second place.
One of the reasons to keep Quintana at Movistar is the commercial impact of the rider and the importance of the telephone brand Movistar in South America. On the other hand, there is still great belief in Quintana’s potential.
