Alexander Kristoff (Norway) is the new European Road Race champion after edging out Elia Viviani (Italy) in a thrilling finish in Herning, Denmark.

Viviani complained that he had been squeezed into the barriers by Kristoff, but race officials allowed the result to stand after viewing replays and Kristoff will wear the European champion’s jersey for the next 12 months.
