Jonathan Milan secured his maiden Tour de France stage win on Saturday, triumphing in a sprint finish during atage 8 of the 2025 Tour de France.

The 171.4-kilometer stage, which ran from Saint-Méen-le-Grand to Laval, concluded with Milan outpacing Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) in a powerful sprint.

The 24-year-old, making his Tour de France debut, showcased his sprinting prowess in a chaotic final kilometer, navigating a technical finish to claim victory. This win marked the first Italian stage victory at the Tour since Vincenzo Nibali’s success in 2019.

“Winning with this jersey on my shoulder means a lot for me and for my country,” Milan said after the race. “I was placed in a perfect position to take this victory, and I’ll try to win again tomorrow.”

Despite the celebratory moment, Milan faced a penalty from the race jury for obstructing another rider approximately 800 meters from the finish line. The infraction resulted in a deduction of 10 points in the points classification, which could impact his pursuit of the green jersey.

Stage 9, a 158-kilometer flat course from Chinon to Châteauroux, offers another opportunity for sprinters, and Milan expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete.

“We achieved what we were looking for today, and now we want more,” he said, eyeing further success in the race.
