Jonas Vingegaard lost again time to Tadej Pogacar in the 14th stage of the Tour de France but the Danish rider says he lost a battle, but not the war.
“We knew he had this crazy attack and maybe the last three kilometres of the climb suited him a bit better with the flatter part and downhill,” Vingegaard said after stage 14. “In that case, it made sense [that Pogacar won] because he has more total power than I have. I did a really good performance, I cannot be disappointed in that… but of course it’s disappointing to lose 40 seconds.”
“We knew last night that Tadej would attack on the final climb,” said Visma directeur sportif Grischa Niermann. “We of course hoped for a different outcome. But today Pogacar was on a different level, we have to accept that. Jonas did a good effort, he rode Remco [Evenepoel] out of his wheel, but in the end he lost quite a lot of time and we have to accept it. Tadej was better.”
