Jonas Vingegaard has burst onto the professional road cycling scene in recent years. The Danish rider first made his name known worldwide with a second-place finish in his Tour De France debut in 2021. In the years that followed, he finished first in successive Tour De France events.
Vingegaard is showing signs of becoming one of the all-time elites of cycling, especially considering he’s only at the beginning of his career and is already threatening to break records within the sport.
Vingegaard has a third Tour De France in his sights
Vingegaard will be aiming to win the Tour De France yet again in 2024. This would make him a remarkable winner of three straight successes on French territory, and he’s the favorite to do so in the early Tour De France predictions.
In the outright sport betting markets, the Danish cyclist is already backed to run away with the honors for a third time in 2024, although veteran Primoz Roglic should provide firm pressure at the front of the pack.
Only Chris Froome has managed to put up treble success in consecutive fashion in the 21st century. With regard to the all-time history of the competition, only four riders have ever managed to win three in a row – Vingegaard would certainly join an elite group if he can deliver success once again next year.
Vingegaard wouldn’t just join an exclusive group of cycling legends based on a potential victory in 2024. He would also create his own unique form of history as the Danish cyclist would be the youngest-ever treble winner of the Tour De France.
The back-to-back champion of 2022 and 2023 had to conquer top-quality opposition in order to seal his successes so far. His previous triumphs have made him somewhat of a modern great within the cycling scene. This time around, Roglic could be set to provide the strongest threat to Vingegaard’s success, and he’ll be aspiring to cement his own name in the history books.
Primoz Roglic could also make history
Besides Vingegaard, the legendary Slovenian rider is another who’s expected to compete for the honors at the next edition of the Tour de France. Roglic is a treble-winner of another Grand Tour event the Vuelta a Espana. He has also won the Giro d’Italia, meaning he will also be chasing his own form of treble success next year.
While Vingegaard is looking to become a treble champion of the most prestigious leg of the Grand Tour, Roglic is seeking a victory in order to crown an incredible career with the final prize that has evaded him so far.
The Slovenian could also join an exclusive group within cycling, as only seven individuals in all-time history have won all three Grand Tour events during their careers.
Vingegaard will undoubtedly remain the favorite by the time the action kicks off next June. Many fans and bettors will be backing the rider simply because the alternatives fail to match his prospects: Vingegaard has dominated the event in recent years, and with age on his side, he may not have even reached his peak potential yet.
However, Roglic should also be considered in the running for the event. Like the Danish reigning champion, he also has huge legacy-defining motivations for winning the 2024 Tour de France. It’s likely that one of the two will at least emerge as the champion next July, and we will have a treble-winner of some variety.
