Jonas Abrahamsen claimed victory on stage 11 of the Tour de France in Toulouse, marking the first-ever Tour stage win for his Norwegian team, Uno-X Mobility.
The 156.8-kilometer stage, a loop around Toulouse with five categorized climbs, including the challenging Côte de Pech David (800 meters at 12.4%), was marked by aggressive racing from the outset.
Abrahamsen initiated an early breakaway alongside Mauro Schmid (Jayco-AlUla) and Davide Ballerini (XDS Astana), with Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious) and Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies) later joining the group. The breakaway maintained a narrow lead, often under 30 seconds, as a strong chase group featuring Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, and others applied pressure.
The peloton faced its own challenges, splitting early due to relentless attacks and a high pace nearing 50 km/h. General classification contenders, including race leader Ben Healy, Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, and Remco Evenepoel, were caught in the chaos but maintained their positions.
In the final 15 kilometers, Abrahamsen and Schmid dropped their breakaway companions on the Côte de Vieille-Toulouse. With Van der Poel closing to within seven seconds, the duo held firm, and Abrahamsen out-sprinted Schmid by a half-wheel in Toulouse’s sycamore-lined finish, despite a brief disruption by a protester near the line. Van der Poel took third, with the peloton arriving over three minutes later.
The stage also saw a late crash involving Pogacar, who clipped a wheel 4 kilometers from the finish. In a gesture of sportsmanship, rivals Vingegaard and Evenepoel slowed the peloton, allowing Pogacar to rejoin without losing time, preserving the GC standings.
A day Abrahamsen and Uno-X Mobility will never forget 😍
