The stage from Canakkale to Edremit featured some climbing in the first half of the afternoon before a mostly flat run-in to the line.
With the race together for an expected sprint in the finale, Deceuninck-Quick-Step took control of the pack. Maximiliano Richeze led out the sprint, with Jakobsen launching in the final 250 meters.
Cavendish was well-positioned but had to swerve around Richeze as he veered off, with the Brit having to settle for third behind Jakobsen and Bennett.
“Without my teammates this win was impossible,” Jakobsen said at the finish. “This is a victory for them. Okay I do the sprint but they bring me into position. Max was my last man and he brought me into position with 200 meters tog It was a slightly uphill sprint and even a Turkish flag couldn’t stop me . I just happy that I won and can take home the victory.”
