Following the grueling stage 18 of the 2025 Tour de France, Oscar Onley faced the media, visibly drained but resolute.
On the unforgiving climbs, Oscar Onley faced a critical moment when Visma’s blistering pace saw him briefly dropped from the leading group, his legs straining to match the relentless attacks of the frontrunners. Undeterred, the young Scottish cyclist dug deep, relying on his team’s support to claw his way back into contention with a gritty recovery.
In a stunning turn of events, Onley later surged ahead, dropping podium rival Florian Lipowitz.
“I wouldn’t say I kept my cool,” Onley admitted. “I still felt good, I’m just not at the level of those guys when they attack, and it showed at the end that they went pretty hard up there.”
The stage, characterized by a brutal tempo set by Visma, tested the peloton’s resilience, with Onley describing the experience simply: “Um, yeah, it was hard… I don’t even know. Visma just set a hard pace, and I just did what I could.”
When asked about his chances of closing the gap to third place in the GC Florian Lipowitz, Onley’s response was measured but resolute: “Yeah, that’s not much. We’ll give everything tomorrow.”
Sitting just 22 seconds from the podium with one stage left, Onley remained cautiously optimistic about his prospects. “Yeah, that’s not much. We’ll give everything tomorrow,” he vowed, signaling his intent to leave it all on the road in the Tour’s final push.
