Remco Evenepoel made a comeback to racing after the Olympic Games today at the Tour of Britain, his first race in a new outfit.

From now on, Evenepoel’s jersey and bibs will be partly gold, just like his helmet and details on his socks. Earlier this week he already presented his new golden bike.

“It’s a special jersey with gold bands,” Evenepoel says. “I had to fight for it quite a bit, because the UCI insisted that the rainbow bands were preferred, but luckily I got both”.

Evenepoel received a gold-plated bike from bike sponsor Specialized. At a meeting with the press, the Belgian proudly presented his bolide to the crowd.

“After a performance with two gold medals, we felt that a gold bike would suit Remco very well,” Bas Giling of Specialized said. “Morale is already very high and will be even higher now.”

The Belgian is the top favorite for the final victory in Britain, but did not have a flawless preparation in Spain for the Tour of Britain.

“After all the celebrations I got a bit sick upon arrival in Spain, probably because of the decompression. My body could finally let go of all the stress. I was really sick, which made it quite difficult to train again afterwards. But all in all I recovered well.”
