Egan Bernal (Team Sky) powered to an impressive victory on the stage three mountain time trial at the Tour de Romandie.
The Colombian clocked an unbeatable marker of 25 minutes and 10 seconds on the constant uphill drag to Villars, taking his first WorldTour win by four seconds to climb into second place overall.
Only three riders were able to finish within a minute of Bernal, who got quicker across the 9.9-kilometre course, overhauling the time of Richie Porte (BMC), before holding off race leader Primoz Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo).
He now sits just six seconds off Roglic’s yellow jersey ahead of the race’s queen stage on Saturday.
“My coach told me you need to do your own numbers. It doesn’t matter about the times of any other riders,” Bernal said. “I just tried to do my numbers and I won, and I am so happy for that.”
