Castrillo to INEOS not a done deal yet as other teams show interest

Rumours circulating last week were saying that a deal between Vuelta a Espana revelation Pablo Castrillo and INEOS Grenadiers has been finalized, but according to Marca, this transfer is certainly not yet a done deal.

According to the Spanish newspaper, negotiations between the 23-year-old and INEOS Grenadiers are at an advanced stage, but the Spaniard has reportedly not signed anything yet. The British team is in pole position to attract the two-time stage winner in the Vuelta, but there is competition from Movistar.

The team of Eusebio Unzue has already had several talks with Castrillo’s entourage. Pablo’s older brother Jaime Castrillo was a professional at Movistar in 2018 and 2019, but left the squad after two seasons.

The interest for Pablo is not only coming from INEOS Grenadiers and Movistar. The climber is very popular on the transfer market after his two Vuelta victories. Marca says that Astana Qazaqstan, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe and Cofidis are also interested.

Castrillo, who only turned pro last year and is now in his first ever Grand Tour, officially has a contract with his current team Kern Pharma until the end of 2025, but there is a clause in it that he can leave if a WorldTour team wants to sign him.
