Adam Yates can travel to the Tour de France with confidence after he finished second at the Criterium du Dauphine.
“It’s not easy to race against a Jonas in top form, but I think I had a good race. It’s nice to compete for the win,” Yates said after the final stage.
UAE Team Emirates managed to win the individual time trial with Mikkel Bjerg and was therefore also on the final podium with Adam Yates.
“It has been a good week. We rode well as a team all week. Step by step we get better. We are now taking some rest and hopefully we can take another step”, Yates looks ahead to the Tour de France
Yates will not be the leader at the Tour, but should be most important man for Tadej Pogacar.
“There is still pressure, there is still stress. You have to be in top shape at the start. Maybe I don’t have to risk my life as much as I used to, but you still have to be in the right position at the right time to do your job. It remains stressful. Hopefully it will be a nice experience.”
After the Dauphine, Yates left for Sestriere, where he will make the final preparations for the Tour together with Pogacar, among others. “But first I’ll rest for four or five days,” he laughed.
