Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) won stage 20 of the 2025 Tour de France, taking his first Tour stage victory on the 184.2 km route from Nantua to Pontarlier.
The Australian sprinter, typically known for flat finishes, joined a 13-man breakaway after 70 km, navigating four categorized climbs and wet conditions. The breakaway included riders like Tim Wellens and Matteo Jorgenson.
A crash 21 km from the finish eliminated Ivan Romeo and Romain Gregoire, leaving Groves with Frank van den Broek and Jake Stewart. Groves attacked solo 17 km out, building a lead of up to 50 seconds. He finished 54 seconds ahead of van den Broek (Picnic PostNL) and 59 seconds ahead of Pascal Eenkhoorn (Soudal Quick-Step).
Groves, emotional at the finish, completed his Grand Tour stage win collection, having won seven Vuelta a Espana stages and two at the Giro d’Italia.
“There’s a lot of pressure at the Tour,” he said. “I’m always asked if I can win here. Today, I felt good and pushed to the end.”
The win marked Alpecin-Deceuninck’s third stage victory of the 2025 Tour.
