Enric Mas faced a harsh reality check after stage 13 of the 2025 Tour de France, an uphill individual time trial to Peyragudes.
Finishing 16th, 2 minutes and 58 seconds behind stage winner Tadej Pogacar, Mas admitted his general classification hopes were effectively over, turning his attention instead to chasing a stage victory in the remaining days of the race.
The 30-year-old rider, who had already lost 16 minutes on the brutal stage 12 at Hautacam, was candid about his struggles.
“There was no strength. There’s no other explanation”, said Mas.
The disappointment was palpable as he reflected on his performance, acknowledging that the grueling demands of the Tour had taken their toll. With his GC ambitions dashed, Mas announced a new objective.
“I’m going to go all out for a stage win.”
This shift in strategy also frees up his Movistar teammates, who will now have the opportunity to pursue their own goals rather than solely supporting Mas’ faltering GC campaign.
“My teammates can now have more freedom to go for their own chances,” he added.
