Jonas Vingegaard lost more than a minute to Tadej Pogacar on Plateau de Beille and is now three minutes behind in the general classification of the Tour de France.
Visma-Lease a Bike quickly took the initiative in the fifteenth stage and put itself at the head of the peloton all day, hoping to make the race hard and ultimately break Pogacar. Vingegaard himself attacked with ten kilometers from the finish, but Pogacar got stuck to his wheel and later left behind the Danish rider with a decisive acceleration.
“He showed today how strong he is,” Vingegaard said. “I can’t be disappointed, on the contrary. The team rode very strongly today. I was also very strong on the final climb. Today was probably one of my best performances ever and he was another minute faster. So my congratulations to him”.
“There is still an opportunity for us. The Tour is not over yet. We have seen in recent years that he occasionally has a bad day. We have to hope for that now, then maybe we can crack it. But of course, if he can maintain this level, it will be very difficult for me and the team.”
