18-year-old Pablo Torres has put in a powerful display to close the Tour de l’Avenir. The UAE Team Emirates Gen Z rider has taken the final stage and has been on the verge of taking the lead from the British rider Blackmore, who seals the overall for 12 seconds.
But the most impressive thing about today was the performance delivered by the young Spanish rider on the Colle delle Finestre. Torres averaged 6.04W/kg for more than one hour, equivalent to 6.34W/kg at sea level.
That made Torres beat Chris Froome’s time on stage 19 of the 2018 Giro d’Italia by 3 minutes and 34 seconds. He also smashed the previous record holder on Finestre, being faster than Jose Rujano with more than one minute.
