Alejandro Valverde will lead Movistar in Strade Bianche this Saturday. The now 40-year-old veteran finished third in the Tuscan classic in 2014 and 2015.

Valverde has already played a leading role in the gravel classic several times. In 2013 he had to settle for thirteenth place after bad luck in the final, but in 2014 and 2015 he was on the podium for the Spanish  formation.

His teammate Ivan García has never managed to shine in Strade Bianche. The fast Spaniard was also present last year, but was unable to reach the finish in Siena at the time.

The selection of the Spanish team for Strade Bianche also includes Abner González, the young climber from Puerto Rico, Héctor Carretero, Lluís Mas, Sergio Samitier and Gonzalo Serrano.
