Peter Sagan was unable to make it back-to-back Tour of Flanders triumphs, with a sensational solo ride seeing Philippe Gilbert take the win.
A dramatic crash on the final ascent of the Kwaremont brought down the Slovakian. Sagan appeared to clip the advertising hoarding when pushing to catch Gilbert and took Van Avermaet and Oliver Naesen down with him
