Egan Bernal looks back with satisfaction on the tough fourth stage of the Giro d’Italia. The Colombian finished eleventh, first of the GC men, and more importantly for the Colombian, there were no physical problems.
In the general classification, Bernal is in a provisional 11th place, 1m39s behind pink jersey wearer Alessandro De Marchi.
“I’m here to have fun and regain the confidence of 2019. This day puts me on the right track”, said the Colombian after the stage.
Bernal was an uncertain factor for the Giro, but after a solid opening time trial and a good performance in the first tough stage, Bernal proves that he is a force to be reckoned with.
“I was in no pain and there were no problems. I had the legs to follow when there was an attack. I could also try it myself. I managed to maintain my concentration until the end and I reached my goal in this difficult stage. The team has also worked well” concluded Bernal.
