Wout Poels hopes of victory in Paris-Nice came to a painful end after he crashed into a roadside barrier towards the end of stage six.
Poels was able to sit up after his tumble but Team Sky quickly confirmed the Dutchman, who was lying in second overall, would not be continuing in the week-long race.
