Nicola Ruffoni won the third stage of the Tour of Croatia, outsprinting Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo) and Riccardo Minali (Astana) in Zadar.
At -35 km in the stage, a cyclist slided on a roundabout and involved other 6 riders in the crash. Kristijan Durasek, who started the day atop the general classification leaderboard, crashed badly and lost leader’s jersey,
Przemysław Niemiec quit the race and he was transferred to the hospital.
Dr Corsetti, head of the health staff of the UAE Team Emirates, was with the riders at the Zadar Hospital: “Niemiec suffered a non displaced left collarbone fracture, which had been already broken twice in the past. Moreover, he suffered a severe contusion on the left knee”.
Durasek suffered a ribs contusion, x-ray did not detected evident fractures: tomorrow morning the rider and the team will decide weather he’ll be able to participate in the stage or not”.
Jaime Roson (Caja Rural) took over the leader’s jersey, with Vincenzo Nibali now sitting second, five seconds down.
