Grosu takes overall CRO Race lead with stage 2 win

Eduard Grosu (Delko Marseille Provence) unhooked from the peloton with around a kilometre remaining to claim victory on stage 2 of the 2019 CRO Race.

Alex Edmondson (Mitchelton-Scott) beat home the reduced bunch before he was one of those caught up in a crash after the finish line when a running spectator took three riders down.

“It was a strange old day,” Edmondson said. “That finishing circuit…with the wet roads in the city, it felt like you were riding on ice.

The three-second gap over the line, combined with a 10-second bonus for winning the stage, saw Grosu overhaul yesterday’s winner Kump in the overall standings and take the red leader’s jersey.
