Fabio Aru, the only grand tour winner on the market for 2018, could join Trek-Segafredo to replace Alberto Contador, who will retire after the Vuelta.

Het Nieuwsblad is reporting that Italian champion is now a major target for Trek-Segafredo. Aru reportedly had been asking for €3 million a year contract.

“For now, we have him and we want to keep him,” Astana team manager Giuseppe Martinelli said during Tour de France.

“For sure, we have tough competition. Many teams want him, and if they want him, then that means he’s good. For the moment, we have him and we’ll help him win in the Tour de France for team Astana.”

Het Nieuwsblad also says that Rigoberto Uran and Daniel Martin were other potential targets as a team leader. However Cannondale-Drapac is keen to extend with Uran, while Martin has been liked to a possible move to UAE Team Emirates.
