Samuel Dumoulin (AG2R) took the victory on stage 1 of the Tour du Haut Var Saturday in Saint-Paul-en-Forêt, finishing ahead of FDJ’s Arthur Vichot and WB Veranclassic’s Maxime Vantomme.
“It’s always nice to kick off the victory tally for the team. I must admit, I have had it on my mind for a while.”, said Dumoulin.
There was a big stage today in Oman, and it would have made me very happy if one of the guys there had won that race. But we also reconnoitered the finish of this stage, and knew that I could be a player in the finale. We showed our collective strength. I hope that my victory will encourage many more for the team! Now there is still a stage to go, and we will do everything we can to get a second victory tomorrow.”
