Lotto Soudal will be led by former Santos Tour Down Under winner Andre Greipel.

The two-time ochre jersey winner flew into Adelaide ahead of his team last week with teammate Marcel Sieberg and has been training with the team since their arrival in Adelaide on Monday.

Also in the team will be Australian Adam Hansen, Dane Lars Bak Ytting, and Belgians Thomas De Gendt, Bjorg Lambrecht and Jens Debusschere.

“My main goal is not (the general classification) of the Tour Down Under but I’m not here to give away sprint races,’’ Greipel said. “For sure we have a good team for the lead outs and for the sprints and I want to be there. I just want to try to adapt to the time difference now.

“Caleb (Ewan) will be there, (Elia) Viviani, there’s a lot of good sprinters here.”

Greipel’s first WorldTour stage win was at the Tour Down Under in 2008 where he claimed Stirling-Hahndorf before victory in three more stages of the coveted event and the GC.

The Santos Tour Down Under gets underway with the People’s Choice Classic on Sunday 14 January, ahead of Stage 1 from Port Adelaide to Lyndoch on Tuesday 16 January.
